"When I researched birthing options, I came across an unfamiliar term to
my husband and I: doula. When I approached my husband about enlisting
the support of a birth doula, he wasn't thrilled with the idea; he
wanted to be the only one in the room with me, my sole support, and the
one who helped me through the labor process to welcome our child into
the world. He reluctantly agreed to meet with Julie, and once we met
with her he realized that she was not there to take his place in
welcoming our child; she would be there to support us when we needed it
and offer much needed expertise when we couldn't detach ourselves
emotionally from the birthing process. Julie listened to us, knew what
we wanted, and was instrumental in keeping us faithful to our plans.
With her support and encouragement, we were able to stick to our plan
to have the unmedicated and natural childbirth that we wanted. I loved
that she visited us postpartum and appreciated that she took the time
