Greenhouse Birth Center ~ The only freestanding birth center in mid-Michigan, located in Okemos. Greenhouse Birth Center is an excellent option for families seeking an out-of-hospital birth. The birth center also hosts a variety of moms groups that are open to the general public.
BirthNetwork National ~ The mission of BirthNetwork is to promote the awareness and availability of mother-friendly maternity care. The Capital Area BirthNetwork meets the 4th Wednesday of the month at 7pm at First Christian Church in Lansing. DONA International ~ DONA International doulas are educated to work within evidence-based standards of practice. The skills that they provide are medically proven to make a true difference in experience of birth. A DONA International doula's presence at birth improves outcomes for both the mother and the baby. In the postpartum period, a doula's guidance can empower and encourage new parents, inspiring self-confidence in parenting.
Childbirth Education
Mother's Circle Empowered Childbirth Classes ~ Heather Paris teaches a 6 week course at the Greenhouse Birth Center that focuses on preparing for a natural childbirth in a hospital setting.
Lamaze International ~ Lamaze International works to promote, support and protect normal birth through education and advocacy. Lamaze envisions for the future a world of confident women choosing normal birth.
Breastfeeding
La Leche League International ~ There are several La Leche League groups that meet locally and provide support for breastfeeding moms. La Leche League Leaders are available to provide phone support at any time.
Kellymom.com ~ An on-line resource for all of your breastfeeding questions.
Babywearing and Cloth Diapering
Lansing Babywearers ~ A group for moms interested in babywearing. The group has a lending library of carriers for families to borrow and try.
Z Bear Diapers ~ Z Bear Diapers is an on-line cloth diapering store based out of the Lansing area. They do offer free pick-up, in-person consultations, come and see shopping, and cloth diapering classes at the Greenhouse Birth Center.
